Graduate Program
Admissions Instructions
We require you to submit results only from the standard GRE. Note that there is no minimum score for admission, nor will a high GPA or GRE score in itself assure admission. Our admissions committee will take all elements of your application into consideration, and will give substantial weight to your personal statement, writing sample, and letters of recommendation.
Please send the following three items as email attachments (PDF files if possible, or Word documents) to: a.mcmillan@mail.utexas.edu.
1. Page 3 (Supplemental Information) of the Application for Admission to Graduate Study (PDF file)
This form and other application materials are available from the Graduate and International Admissions Center's website.
2. Statement of Purpose
A brief statement of no more than about 700 words that describes your research interests and explains why you wish to study at UT. We encourage you to identify one or more UT faculty members with whom you might wish to study, read some of their publications, and contact them directly before you apply.
3. Writing Sample
A sample of your scholarly work; it is best, if possible, to submit one that is related to the research interests you wish to pursue at UT. Please submit no more than 20 pages.
Please mail the following to:
Graduate Coordinator
University of Texas
Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies
1 University Station F3600

4. Three letters of recommendation
Three letters from persons acquainted with your scholastic ability; it is generally best to choose professors with whom you have studied and who can address your potential for graduate study. We will use these letters in making decisions about both admission and possible financial support. Please download and print out copies of the UT Request for Reference form
for your recommenders to attach to their letters, and ask each recommender to seal his or her confidential letter in an envelope and sign it across the flap. We prefer that you send all three letters to us in a single packet, but if your recommenders prefer, they may instead mail their individual letters to us directly.
In addition to the materials listed above, please send the following items directly to:
