The Alash Ensemble: Throat Singers From the Republic of Tuva

Posted: March 4, 2013

Sunday, March 10th, 2013

7:00 PM
FAC 21

The University of Texas Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies again welcomes The Alash Ensemble from the Siberian Republic of Tuva.  The Alash musicians are known for their mastery of Tuvan throat singing: an incredible vocal practice enabling a single singer to produce multiple notes simultaneously.  In addition, all the members of Alash are virtuosic instrumentalists, performing Tuvan national instruments, the guitar, and accordion. Trained at the Kyzyl College of the Arts, Alash produces music grounded in Tuvan folk melodies, while integrating jazz, blues and classical elements.

Thanks to the generous support of the Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies, The College of Liberal Arts, and the Department of Asian Studies, the event is free and open to the public.  Because of the Alash Ensemble’s growing popularity, the show is expected to produce full attendance. Arrive early to ensure available seating.
