Course Description
TAUGHT IN GUADALAJARA, MEXICO. STUDY ABROAD. CLASS MEETS JUNE 10-JULY 15.
This course offers critical sociological examinations of the sexualities of women of Mexican descent (both U.S.-born and foreign born) and analyzes the experiences of women living in the U.S. Southwest region, paying special attention to women's experiences of sexuality within contexts of migration. The course focuses on the experiences of Mexicanas and Chicanas, however, we will study their parallel experiences of sexuality with women from other U.S. Latino and Latin American cultures. The course will analyze why and how Mexicanas and Chicanas experience sexuality not in isolation, but rather within specific gendered contexts including family, culture, religion, and society, in general.
