The purpose of this course is to introduce students to an overview of the field of demography. Population processes are introduced and scientific perspectives on some of the most pressing world population problems, including rapid population growth, and the control of fertility and mortality are elaborated. The focus on these issues will include the economically developed nations of the world as well as the economically developing nations. The major theories (including the demographic transition) and methodologies of demography (including standardization, life table construction and stable population processes) are addressed.
