Course Description

This class covers basic social statistics ranging from descriptive statistics to bivariate regression and tests of means for two populations.

Grading Policy

REQUIREMENTS AND EXAM POLICY: All students are responsible for all of the material covered in the lectures. There will be two in-class exams and a final. All students must take all of the exams. I do not give any make-up exams except for valid and documented medical or religious reasons. If possible, you must discuss such issues with me BEFORE the exam date. It is the responsibility of the students to come to all of the lectures. The final exam will be cumulative in its content, but will be weighted towards the material covered during the latter part of the course.

GRADING: Each in-class exam is worth 110 points. The final is worth 180 points. There will be 7 homework assignments and each homework assignment is worth 20 points. However, only your best 5 homework scores will be counted (i.e., your lowest 2 homework scores will be dropped). Homework is therefore worth a total of 100 points. A total of 500 points is possible for the course.

FINAL COURSE GRADES WILL BE DETERMINED ACCORDING THE FOLLOWING SCALE:

course grade/points
-----------------------------------------
A 450-500
B 400-449
C 350-399
D 300-349
F 000-299
-----------------------------------------

BONUS POINTS: At the end of the course I will assign up to 7 extra bonus points to a student if he or she had good class participation. I will not give any bonus points to persons who said nothing constructive during the entire semester. A student can not have good class participation if he or she has poor class attendance.
