Course Description
This course surveys the study of gender inequality from a sociological perspective. It introduces key concepts, examines explanations for the origins and maintenance of inequality, and analyzes the consequences of inequality on social institutions and human relationships. We will consider ethnic and social class differences and finish the course with an assessment of social movements both for and against changes in gender norms.
Grading Policy
Final grades are determined by the highest 3 grades of 4 examinations, 3 midterms and a cumulative final exam. There are no make-up exams; students who miss an exam must take the final exam in order to pass the course. Exams are a combination of true-false, multiple-choice, and take-home essay.
