Mounira Maya Charrad and Students: “The Veil: Images and Debates in the Modern World.” A Sociological Slideshow.

Dr. Mounira Maya Charrad and her students will present a slideshow addressing the history and politics of veiling. Charrad is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and author of the award winning book, States and Women's Rights: The Making of Postcolonial Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. This presentation is a collective effort resulting from student research in a Plan II Junior Seminar. Middle Eastern refreshments will be served.
Featuring students Arvin Akhavan, Barbara Borodziewicz, Reid Campbell, Priya Kumar, Valerie Lai, Amy Parks, Lauren Pinkerton, Sarah Satinsky, and Johanna Tyler. The slideshow will be preceded by a brief introduction by Dr. Charrad and followed by a discussion involving the students.
