Oriol Mirosa - "Following the flow: How water became a commodity and why Bolivians are still fighting a water war"
Mon, November 21, 2011 • 12:00 PM • Burdine 214
Oriol Mirosa is currently completing a doctorate in Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His dissertation locates the privatization of water services in Bolivia in a global context, showing how a changing international discourse and institutions pushed Bolivia and other poor countries to view water as a marketable commodity rather than as a basic need, and how these pressures for privatization have persisted even in the aftermath of successful social movement pressure for a democratic opening.
