Dr. Selwyn Cudjoe, a professor at Wellesley College, will be giving a lecture based on his upcoming work on Trinidadian slaveholder William Hardin Burnley. Tentatively titled "Ignorant Slaves/Tyrannical Master: The Case of William Burnley and Caribbean Slavery," this close examination of post colonialism offers an engaging view of the slave trade that transpired throughout the 19th century in the Caribbean.
Selwyn Cudjoe is the Margaret E. Deffenbaugh and LeRoy T. Carlson Professor in Comparative Literature and professor of Africana Studies at Wellesley College. Holding a Ph.D. in American Studies from Cornell University, he has taught widely (Ithaca College, Brandeis, Cornell, Brandeis, Harvard, Ohio and Fordham universities), and published extensively Caribbean history, literature, and postcolonial discourse.
