Anna V. Banchik is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow in the Sociology Department at the University of Texas at Austin.
In 2011, Anna received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Washington in Seattle. After working at a day labor center as an AmeriCorps member and freelance curriculum writer, she moved to Mexico City on a Fulbright grant (2013-2014). For the next year, Anna conducted fieldwork in Mexico on the role of remittances and social capital for the establishment and development of micro-enterprises owned by women in the state of Zacatecas. She is continuing to develop this project for her Master's work.
In addition to development, migration, and gender, Anna's current academic interests include quantitative methods, poverty, and social stratification. In her free time, she enjoys photography, films, running, and learning computer programming.
