Biography

With a professional background in international development in the Arab World, where he worked for five years with the United Nations Development Programme, Nicholas is currently a graduate student in the PhD Program in Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin and a Graduate Student Trainee at the Population Research Center.

His current research focuses on the link between migration and development in terms of outcomes in both sending and receiving countries, with a particular emphasis on Middle Eastern/North African and Latin American migration to the U.S. and Europe. His other main research interest is at the intersection of religion and politics, particularly the phenomenon of Muslim and Arab migration to the U.S. and Europe.

Nicholas was previously a Fulbright Fellow in Damascus, Syria (2004-2005) and holds an M.A. in Arab Studies from the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies at Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, as well as a B.A. in Religious Studies, French and Spanish from New York University, where he spent two years researching and studying in Paris and Madrid.
