The Department of Sociology at The University of Texas at Austin is among the largest and highest-ranked Sociology departments in the country. According to the 2013 US News and World Report Guide to Graduate Departments, UT Austin Sociology was ranked 7th among public universities and tied for 14th among all universities.

Dr. Christine Williams has been selected to receive the 2014 Jessie Bernard Award from the American Sociological Association.
