Posted: May 7, 2012
At the end of April 2012 sociologist John Sugden visited UT-Austin and gave a talk to the Sociology Department on "investigative sociology," and a talk titled "Sport, Conflict Resolution and Peace Building in Deeply Divided Societies: Between Idealism and Fatalism" at the UT Law School. Sugden spoke about sport-related interventions that have contributed to peace processes across the world. He drew upon his experience as director of Football 4 Peace International, which uses soccer to create a space of dialogue and understanding between young Palestinians and Israelis.
