"All Violence Is Paid For": Urban Violence in Buenos Aires

In Ingeniero Budge, a violent neighborhood in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area, eye-for-an-eye "street justice" is often part of a much bigger cycle of violence. For the last three years sociologist Dr. Javier Auyero and elementary school teacher Fernanda Berti have been examining new forms of urban violence, and here they challenge presumed notions about those most exposed to the violence--adolescents and children. This study combines theory with testimonies from residents of the neighborhood about the various forms of violence that take place here--criminal, domestic, and sexual.
