Graduate student Mieke Thomeer is the 2013 winner of the Norval Glenn Prize for her paper "Marital Processes around Depression: A Gendered Perspective" (coauthored with Debra Umberson and Tetyana Pudrovska). The paper was selected by the award committee this year from a very competitive field.
The Department of Sociology established the Norval Glenn Prize in 2011 to celebrate the memory of Dr. Norval Glenn by giving an annual award to the best graduate student paper in the sociology of family.
Mieke will receive a $500 cash award for her paper, and her name will be inscribed on a plaque that will remain in the Sociology Department office.
The Norval Glenn Prize is supported by generous donations from colleagues, family, and friends from around the nation. For more information about the award, including instructions on how to donate to the fund, please click here.
