Dr. Robert Hummer to Present Penn State's 8th Annual De Jong Lecture in Social Demography
Posted: October 28, 2013
Dr. Robert Hummer will present Penn State’s 8th annual De Jong Lecture in Social Demography on Thursday, November 14, at 8:45 am in the university's Nittany Lion Inn Assembly Room.
There continues to be substantial interest and debate regarding the relatively favorable health and mortality patterns of the Mexican Origin population in the United States. In his talk, "De-mystifying the Hispanic Paradox: Toward a Better Understanding of Health and Mortality Patterns Among Mexican Origin Adults in the United States," Hummer takes a fresh look at the older adult health and mortality patterns of the Mexican Origin population of the United States and makes comparisons with the health and mortality patterns of similarly-aged individuals in Mexico.
Irma Elo, professor of sociology at University of Pennsylvania, and Patricia Miranda, assistant professor of health policy and administration and demography at Penn State, will act as discussants. For more information, visit www.pop.psu.edu/events/2013/djl/2013-deJong-lecture/view.
