Welcome to Sociological Insight!

Sociological Insight is a fully refereed national undergraduate research journal aimed at promoting undergraduate research in the social sciences. Insight provides an opportunity for undergraduates all over the U.S. and abroad to publish their best academic work, and to reap the benefits of subjecting their research to a rigorous review process.

May 2009 Issue is Now in Print!

We are pleased to announce that the first issue of Sociological Insight, Volume 1, Issue 1 (May 2009), is now in print (copies can be ordered here; an electronic version is accessible below). During fall 2008 and spring 2009, Sociological Insight received 52 submissions from 33 universities, and employed 28 faculty, 42 graduate, and 36 undergraduate reviewers, from around the United States. The 52 submissions were from:

American University, Augusta State University, Beloit College, Bethune-Cookman College, Davidson College, Fisk University, Harvard University, Loyola University Chicago, Macalester College, New York University, Pennsylvania State University, Presbyterian College, Princeton University, Rice University, Sonoma University, Southwestern University, Spelman College, Syracuse University, Texas State University, Truman University, University of California Santa Cruz, University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, University of Chicago, University of Alabama-Birmingham, University of Iowa, University of Maryland, University of Minnesota, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Texas at Austin, Vanderbilt University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Wake Forest University.

Each article was also evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief and one Managing or Deputy Editor. Ultimately, seven articles and one research note were accepted for publication, along with seven book reviews written by graduate students and faculty. Please find below Sociological Insight Issue 1 in its entirety. Also find below a summary of the scholarly impact of each of the published articles. We hope you will enjoy the diverse intellectual perspectives, innovative methods, and exciting research findings presented in this first issue of Sociological Insight. We look forward to bringing our readers many more excellent publications in future years.

Submissions for Issue 2 (MAY 2010)

If you are an undergraduate, then we encourage you to submit your best work to Sociological Insight. We are now receiving submissions for Sociological Insight Issue 2, May 2010. The submission deadline is Monday January 11, 2009. Please familiarize yourself with the submission guidelines, read about the anonymous peer-review process, and consider the benefits of submitting. Looking over Issue 1 will help give you a sense of the quality and structure (i.e. organization and referencing/citations) of articles published in Sociological Insight. If you are an Undergraduate Director, Advisor, or Professor, then please learn more about Insight and consider encouraging your students to participate in this invaluable experience.
