The objective of this course is to examine in depth how a sentence (simple and compound) is structured in Spanish. Unit One: Basic Sentence Structure *Parts of Speech, Phrasal Categories, and Constituent Structure *Different Types of Verbs (Intransitive, Transitive, Copulative, etc.) *Grammatical Functions (Subject, Direct Object, Indirect Object, etc.) Unit Two: Inflection: Agreement and Tense/Aspect *Grammatical Categories (person, number and gender) and Agreement *Preterit and Imperfect Unit Three: Different Functions of se Unit Four: Compound Sentences *Different kinds of subordinate clauses (Nominal, Adjectival, and Adverbial) *Mood Selection in subordinate clauses: Indicative vs. Subjunctive, Subjunctive vs. Infinitive
