Course Description
The main questions this course will address are: What is the role of Latin American cinema in the formation gender system? How does Latin American cinema destabilize patriarchal hegemony? How can be characterized the relationship between marginal sexualities and gender structure in Latin American cinema? To answer these questions the class will analyze a selection of films produced from the 1930s to the present, focusing on the following topics: maternity, prostitution, machismo, children sexuality homosexuality and heterosexuality.
Grading Policy
4 partial tests: 40% 1 final test: 30% 1 short paper: 20% Class participation: 10%
Texts
A selection of essays and literary works related to films will be prepared by the instructor. It will include texts by Ramërez-Pimienta, David Foster, Jorge Ayala Blanco, Sabina Berman, etc.
