Course Description
The objective of this course is to familiarize student of Spanish with basic areas and concepts of linguistics, with reference to the Spanish language. The main areas of linguistics that are addressed in this course are phonology, morphology, syntax, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, historical linguistics, and contemporary Spanish language variation.
Students will come to class prepared to work on exercises and to discuss linguistic issues. A term paper is required at the end of the course based on some empirical data that reflect one or more aspects studied in the class.
Grading Policy
Exams (3): 60% Discussion and preparation: 10% Homework: 5% Term paper: 20% Presentation: 5%
