Course Description
Course is designed to exercise fluency in both spoken and written language in health care situations. Primarily for pre-med students, the course focuses on grammatical concepts that are difficult for English speakers of Spanish to master. Professional Oral proficiency and expediency is the primary goal of this course. The course emphasizes professional oral expression, listening, comprehension and writing skills. Through a review of grammar and vocabulary building strategies, students work on improving self-expression, gradually mastering communication skills that are rudimentary and increasingly mandatory in health care professionals in the United States.
The e-course consists of class meetings; a DVD and the Web-based learning that make interactive exercises (cases studies, discussion questions, quizzes, dialogues and role-plays) possible. This requires students to interact with one another and with the instructor. The information discussed and tested in the course of the semester help learners better communicate with their future patients as well as create a cultural awareness of the Latino immigrant community in the United States.
