SPN 326K • Introduction to Spanish Literature Before 1700
This course surveys the main literary currents and the most important poets, playwrights, novelists and short story writers of the Spanish Middle-Ages and the Golden Age (16th, 17th centuries). The literary, artistic aspects of the texts - some in their entirety, others in selections - will be studied in their fundamental philosophical, historical, and social contexts as well. A method of literary analysis will be offered in class. Students are to be prepared with assignments always, and are expected to participate actively in the discussions in class.
