SPN 372 • Space in Contemporary Spanish Literature

Course Description

In this course, we will focus on the representation of space in contemporary Spanish literature, with an emphasis on questions of gender, sexuality, memory, and artistic imagination. The literary texts include some canonical novels, such as Carmen Laforet's Nada, Mercé Rodoredas La plaza del diamante, Rosa Chacels Memorias de Leticia Valle, and Eduardo Mendicuttis Una mala noche la tiene cualquiera We will also look at science fiction by Ray Loriga, as well as short theoretical texts on space, place, memory, sexual identity, and gender.

Grading Policy

Two papers, 5-7 pages in length: 60% Oral Presentation of 1 critical article: 20% Class participation: 10%
