Course Description
The course is designed primarily for Hispanic bilingual students whose home language is Spanish but whose dominant and school language is English. The principal objective of this course is writing correctly and proficiently as well as gaining a strong cultural perspective of Latin America, through a series of literary texts. We will focus on composing discourses in spanish using basic writing styles such as Description, Narration, and Exposition. In tandem, important elements of Spanish orthography and grammar will be reviewed, as well as a keen awareness of grammatical blurs that inhibit the bilingual speaker from developing a natural ease and respect for the language. Acquistion and proper usage of vocabulary, fixed phrases, idiomatic expressions, reading, and writing are all factes of daily work. Although the main focus of the course is writing discourse, oral language development will also be addressed through a series of group presentations.
