Course Description
An examination of the most representative Spanish American authors as a course of study in the art of story telling, short story theory, literary history and individual poetics, and as an incursion into narrative theories in general. Different modalities of tales are treated in this course: realist, fantastic, marvelous, and real-marvelous. Readings from such writers as Echeverría, Quiroga, Borges, Bombal, Rulfo, Carpentier, García Márquez, Cortázar, Ocampo.
Grading Policy
4 Quizzes: 50% Final Paper: 30% Class Participation (Oral presentations, Active Participation, Excellent Attendance): 20%
