Course Description
This class examines the two main artistic trends of the Spanish 19th century literature. Through a selection of readings pertaining to Romanticism and Realism, the class will follow the ever evolving aesthetics of the 19th century. Selections include a variety of genres-poetry, narrative and drama-and writers that will help to achieve a general understanding of these first steps of the modern writing. All students will be required to maintain an updated reading diary where they will write their personal reactions to the material assigned for each period of class.
