The application of corpus linguistics in language teaching
Like previous studies, the value of consulting an existing corpus is also corroborated in this study. The results of this study of errors on collocations (e.g., "trabajar duro", "tomar una decisión") made by learners demonstrate that they can take advantage of the Corpus de Referencias de Español Actual (CREA) of the Real Academia Española to correct these errors and that instructors can also obtain useful materials for the teaching of such collocations. Moreover, upon evaluating learning effects, related factors that affected our objective of obtaining a better control of this applied method were discovered. For example, the most favorable and popular uses of corpus linguistics for learning are lexical searches, in contrast to grammatical searches. If the limitations of this application and other design difficulties can be overcome, so that the corpi reflect learner needs and are utilized by advanced learners of Spanish, the efficiency of the searches can be even more satisfactory and result in facilitated learning and teaching.
