The film Machuca (2004) by director Andrés Wood depicts the political history of Chile through the story of a beautiful friendship between
Pedro Machuca and Gonzalo Infante. Their relationship exemplifies the chilean project of integration between social classes. Machuca represents the working class whereas Infante the bourgeois. Furthermore, their school also serves as a metaphor of the political state that will suffer a military coup against President Salvador Allende. Everything will change: the rules, the teachers, their friendship, and the lives of the Chilean people marked by the historical date: September 11, 1973.
