Biography

Juan José Colomina Almiñana received his PhD in Philosophy from the University of La Laguna (Tenerife, Spain) in 2009. He is a Lecturer at the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at UT-Austin where he teaches an Introduction to the Spanish Contemporary Thought (SPN 372) and an Introduction to Hispanic Sociolinguistics and Pragmatics (SPN 353). His books include Los problemas de las teorías representacionales de la conciencia (Tenerife: Universidad de La Laguna, 2010) and Implicaciones de la teoría de los actos de habla (Madrid: EAE, 2011), and he has co-edited (with V. Raga) La filosofía de Richard Rorty (Madrid: Biblioteca Nueva, 2010). He has also published more than fifty articles in several collected books and international journals. His research areas of interest are about the boundaries between Semantics and Pragmatics, Intercultural Pragmatics, Sociolinguistics, Philosophy of Language and the contemporary contextualist theories about the nature and the structure of language. He also is interested in the History, Language and Literature of Catalonia and the Spanish republican and liberal literature of the first half of the twentieth century.
