Graduate Student Organization
The Graduate Student Organization (GSO), founded in 1970, is an educational student organization made up of graduate students and/or teaching assistants in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. Its main purpose is to serve as a liaison between the faculty, graduate students and teaching assistants in the department, consolidating graduate students’ ideas, suggesting changes and ultimately improving the quality of our program through departmental communication. The GSO also organizes cultural activities for the department such as open mic nights, poetry readings and film screenings, as well as fundraisers to encourage the participation of students at academic meetings. Another important function of this organization is the orchestration of the Annual Graduate Student Colloquium which brings together students from all over the nation, keynote speakers, and professors to share and debate works in progress and new intellectual ideas. Any graduate student or teaching assistant in the department is invited to join.
