Adriana M Pacheco Roldan

MA, Universidad Ibero-Puebla, Mexico

PhD Candidate
Adriana Pacheco was born in Puebla Mexico. Her doctoral research examines the charity-centered rhetoric employed by Catholics and the Catholic Church during the 19th Century, viewing it as one of the most important epistemological discourses in the construction of Mexican feminine subjectivity. It also examines how this discourse turned poverty into a commodity essential to the preservation of an organic society, where roles and responsibilities were clearly delineated on the basis of gender and class. Her research is based on primary documents and newspapers found in archives, churches, convents, and private collections in Mexico and the United States.

Catholic texts and periodical publications, Nineteenth Century Mexican Literature, Feminism and Gender studies, construction of feminine subjectivity, female representation, rhetoric of virtue and charity.
