Graduate Student Organizations

Pterodáctilo

Published annually, Pterodáctilo includes articles of interest to students of Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian languages, literatures and cultures.

Graduate Student Organization (GSO)

The GSO is the organization that serves as liason between graduate students and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. The GSO comprises all the graduate students in the department, with nine officers elected annually by the graduate students. All graduate students are invited to be active members of the GSO. Stay tuned for information on the Colloquium to be held later this spring.

Sigma Delta Pi Honor Society

Sigma Delta Pi is an honor society for both graduate and undergraduate students of Hispanic languages and cultures. Its purposes are as follows:

  1. honor those who seek and attain excellence in the study of the Spanish language and in the study of the literature and culture of the spanish-speaking people;
  2. honor those who striving to make Hispanic contributions to modern culture better known to English-speaking people;
  3. encourage college and university students to acquire a greater interest in and a deeper interest of, Hispanic culture; and
  4. foster friendly relations and mutual respect between the nations of Hispanic speech and those of English speech.

Membership Requirements:

  1. Must have 3 yrs. college spanish or equivalent (including 6 semester hrs. in upper-division Spanish of which one must be Hispanic Lit.) with a GPA of 3.0 and an overall GPA in Spanish of 3.2;
  2. Students must have completed a minimum of 45 hrs.
  3. Recommendation of 1 Prof of Spanish
