Professor Arias Receives Two Research Awards
Posted: December 20, 2011
Professor Arturo Arias was awarded the Faculty Research Leave from the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies (LLILAS) at The University of Texas at Austin for his current research project and his service to LLILAS. This award will allow Professor Arias to be on leave for a semester to work on his new book on indigenous literatures,, Kotz’ib’: The Emergence of a New Maya Literature. This book examines an important emerging field, indigenous cultural production in Latin America, in the context of political and economic policies associated with ‘modernity.’ It therefore engages questions of cultural production, language politics, national literatures, agency and testimonio, as well as narrative and poetic style.
Professor Arias also received a Humanities Research Award for 2010-2012 in support of this project, as well as a Faculty Research Assignment grant from the College of Liberal Arts.
