Posted: December 19, 2011
Professor Jossianna Arroyo-Martínez has received a Humanities Research Award for the years 2012-2014 in support of her current research project, “Mediascapes: Literature and New Media Cultures in the Spanish Caribbean.” This book will study the relationship between the local and the global in contemporary Caribbean cultures, with particular emphasis on literary, sociological and ethnographic discourses in Latin America and Afro-Diasporic literatures and cultures. Her academic investigation addresses issues and questions concerning the constructions of “blackness” in Spanish Caribbean media, including literature, television, film and new technologies such as the internet and youtube.
This university award supports faculty over the course of three years in their effort to bring a research project to completion.
