Academic Advising is a collaboration between student and advisor. In this partnership, advisors present students with university resources for academic, professional, and social development. Students will have the opportunity to realize academic and personal goals as they share their ambitions and aspirations with their academic advisors.
Advisors allow students to discuss major concentrations and degree plans, study abroad, scholarships, and career goals. They also assist students with petitions for degree modifications and the evaluation of study abroad courses and their degree applicability. Referrals and information on other resources will be provided when appropriate.
We ask that students come prepared when visiting an advisor.
Advisors are available for appointments M-F from 8:30am to 11:30am and from 1:00pm to 4:30pm. Students may be able to make a same-day appointment depending on availability. We recommend that students make advising appointments before peak advising periods or registration occurs. Walk-in advising is available during the second week of the registration period. We caution students that there may be a long wait period at that time.
Students may come to BEN 2.108 or call 512-232-4503 or 512-232-4506 for an appointment. If you wish to make an appointment via email, please include your name, EID, and availability that week to facilitate efficient scheduling. We encourage students to make appointments at least one day in advance. Please do not attempt to schedule appointments via voice mail.
One of the best tools for advising is an advising audit. This is a computer-generated list of all your classes detailing how they apply to your degree plan. Paper copies of your audit are made available to you when you come in for advising.
