Fri, September 10, 2010 | Meyerson Conference Room, WCH 4.118

3:30 PM - 5:00 PM

Ikebana, the art of Japanese flower arrangement, is not simply a polite pastime for Japanese women; in the postwar period it grew into a large, competitive international industry with over three thousand schools and up to ten million practitioners.  This presentation examines the production, consumption and circulation of ikebana culture at its peak in the 1950s and 60s .
