Shades of Diversity: Bringing the Civil Rights Movement Forward--Feminism in Today's World

The final speaker series event for the 25th annual Heman Sweatt Symposium on Civil Rights.

The Division of Diversity and Community Engagement hosts a faculty panel discussion titled "Shades of Diversity: Bringing the Civil Rights Movement Forward-Feminism in Today's World" on Thursday, April 14, noon, in the Texas Union, Quadrangle Room 3.304. It's the final speaker series event for the 25th annual Heman Sweatt Symposium on Civil Rights at The University of Texas at Austin. 

The six member panel will discuss the role of feminist analysis in contemporary civil rights issues as it pertains to areas such as the arts, business, education and religion/spirituality.

Panelists include:
* Dr. David A. Laude, senior associate dean for academic affairs, College of Natural Sciences, and professor,   
Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
* Dr. Eric L. McDaniel, associate professor, Department of Government
* Dr. Lisa L. Moore, associate professor of English, Center for Women's and Gender Studies
* Dr. Eric Tang, assistant professor, Department of African and African Diaspora Studies, and core faculty, Center for Asian American Studies
* Dr. Shirley Thompson, associate professor, Department of American Studies and Department of African and African Diaspora Studies
* Dr. Juliet E. K. Walker, professor, Department of History

The annual symposium is coordinated by staff, faculty and students in the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement and is co-sponsored by colleges and schools campus-wide. The symposium culminates on May 6 with a Special Evening of Honors that will recognize individuals who embody the life and legacy of Heman Marion Sweatt.
