Undergraduate student Matthew Ramirez wins Mitchell Award

Matthew Ramirez, English/Classics major, and one of the English Department three Dean's Distinguished Graduates, has won the $2,000 University Co-op George H. Mitchell Student Award for Academic Excellence.

Ramirez won the award for his English Honors Thesis, "Towards a Physiology of Drama: Plot Algorithms for Playwriting, interactive Drama, and Collaborative Filtering," which was directed by Professor Jeff Walker.

Ramirez will begin his PhD studies at Berkeley next fall with a Mellon/Chancellor's Fellowship.
