Prose Narration in the Wake of Digital Media in German Literature circa 2000

Fri, March 28, 2014 | BUR 214

12:00 PM

This talk addresses how the contemporary German prose authors Thomas Meinecke and Rainald Goetz, among others, take into consideration in their writings the material nature of literature’s traditional print culture in light of the remarkable advances in digital media at the turn of the 21st century. More specifically, the talk will explore how their literature thematizes the act of writing in the context of new media frameworks and, as a result, raises issues that have an impact upon our understanding of the concept of authorship.

Uwe Wirth is professor for German literature and cultural studies at the Department for Germanic Studies, JLU Giessen (Germany).
