Fri, March 7, 2014

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Eugenio Arima of the Department of Geography and the Environment is being lauded for his GIS research, and has received third place for the 2014 ESRI Award for Best Scientific Paper in Geographic Information Systems along with co-authors Robert Walker and Dante Vergara. The researchers will be recognized in a March 25 awards ceremony at the 2014 Annual Conference of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) in Louisville, Kentucky, and also receive a $400 prize.

The team’s winning paper, “Assessing the Performance of Linear Feature Models: An Approach to Computational Inference,” was published in the September 2013 issue of Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing.

“The $400 prize will be donated to the UT ASPRS student chapter to support its mission [to promote ethical application… advance the understanding of the geospatial and related sciences… and expand public awareness of the profession],” says Dr. Arima.
