Film version of the novel by German writer Günter Grass. The story is set in Danzig, before, during and after World War II. Oskar Matzerath, age three, throws himself down the cellar stairs to halt his growth. He is successful, and remains the size of a three year old for much of his life. He falls in love twice and joins a traveling troupe of dwarfs. English subtitles
