Film version of the novel by East German writer Jurek Becker. Set in a Jewish ghetto in the east of Europe, 1944. Jakob Heym overhears a radio broadcast telling of the Soviet Union’s slow but steady progress towards Central Europe. Word gets out, giving hope to people in a hopeless situation. English subtitles.
