IHS Symp.: New monograph on Civil War

Prof. Dave Bowman's monograph, "At the Precipice"
Shearer Davis "Dave" Bowman (1949-2009) completed a monograph shortly before his death in Lexington, Ky., entitled At the Precipice: Americans North and South During the Secession Crisis.
On Friday, Oct. 15, in Garrison Hall 4.100, the Institute for Historical Studies (IHS) and the Department of History will host a symposium on The University of Texas at Austin (UT) campus to honor the publication of his book.
The book will be published in Oct. 2010 by the University of North Carolina Press (UNC) as part of its Littlefield History of the Civil War Era series. This 16-volume series is a joint project of UNC Press and the Littlefield Fund for Southern History at UT.
Bowman was a senior lecturer with tenure in the History Department at the University of Kentucky at the time of his death. He had also been an associate professor, associate chair and faculty undergraduate advisor in the Department of History at UT.
