The proposed conference examines musical changes of the 1990s and the new millennium in the Caribbean and links them to broader global trends and research topics in the social sciences.

Participants will address themes related to cultural diaspora; late-twentieth-century globalization; issues surrounding the politics and aesthetics of "world beat"; cultural nationalism; representations of race and ethnicity through music; cross-cultural consumption; the crisis of modernity; and technological change.
