History Commencement Speakers
In 2001, the Department of History began conducting our own baccalaureate graduation ceremonies during the May commencement weekend. Professor Alan Tully, Chair of the History Dept. from 2002 to 2014, realized that students might want to hear from someone who had been in their shoes, graduated from The University of Texas, and wondered about what direction their life would take.
We started the tradition to invite a Texas Ex who earned their bachelor’s degree, majored in history, and was successful in their life so far, to speak each year. It is something that all of our graduates should consider—one day you may be invited back to speak at graduation.
