Feast on This!
Tue, November 19, 2013 • 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM • SAC 2.401
The Native American & Indigenous Collective (NAIC) invites you to join us for FEAST ON THIS! an evening filled with communal celebration, food, and your beautiful voices!
Each fall, members from the four corners of Dinétah (Navajo Nation), converge in one place for a weekend of rodeo, food, dance and celebration to give thanks for everything the creator has given. The signature squash dance is performed and the kinship between Navajos is restored. Harvest time is fundamentally about bringing people together in gratitude and warm blessings and not about eating turkey with immediate family and watching football.
Let us serve you dinner in remembrance of the communal traditions that bind us together while we raise questions about mainstream notions of Thanksgiving and revisit alternative histories to enrich our lives in the now.
Previously known as Harvest Dinner, Feast On This! is a space that will build on our stories, stories that are often silenced by mainstream notions of “history”. We welcome you to join us as we speak to our experiences as people of color. While this event grows from the experiences of NDN students on campus, we know we aren’t the only individuals on campus with something to voice!
So join us!
If you wish to perform, please let us know by midnight Monday, November 11th, 2013. You can email us with a few sentences describing your performance at firstname.lastname@example.org or by contacting us on facebook. The event is open to all students, faculty, staff and community members!
