Professor James Koranyi is a historian of east-central Europe with a focus on memory, minorities, and space in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. He has published on minorities and memory cultures in Romania, Serbia, Hungary and Germany. Currently he is writing a book on German minorities in Romania in the twentieth century. He is also working on the discovery of the Carpathian Arc in the second half of the nineteenth century by British travellers, and he is editing collections of essays on German minorities and the making of landscapes in modernity respectively. He is on the national board of the Society for Romanian Studies.
