Robert Olwell received his Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins University in 1991; and has been at the University of Texas since 1993. His book, Masters, Slaves and Subjects: The Culture of Power in the South Carolina Lowcountry, 1740-1790, was published in 1998. In 2006, he edited (with Alan Tully) an anthology entitled Cultures and Identities in Colonial British America. He has long been at work upon a study on the British Imperial Imagination in the 1760s, using the British colony of East Florida as a case study. This project is tentatively entitled: "Imaginary Empire: British Adventures and Speculations in Florida on the Eve of the American Revolution."
