	Institute's 2008-09 Doctoral Research Grant Recipients Announced The travel stipends will be used by graduate students of the History department to conduct research in archives located around the world, including Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, England, Mexico, and Venezuela.
	IHS Appoints External Research Fellows for 2008-09 The IHS has appointed five external research fellows for 2008-09 from an extraordinarily talented and diverse pool of over 230 applicants.
	Institute for Historical Studies Created IHS to serve as part of UT President William Powers Jr.'s initiative The Institute for Historical Studies is one part of university President William Powers Jr.'s initiative to make UT-Austin the leading public university in the nation. The History Department has also significantly increased funding for graduate students to offer nationally competitive stipend packages and plans to hire eight additional senior faculty.
	Institute for Historical Studies celebrates founding, launches programs The UT History Department announces the founding of the Institute for Historical Studies and the beginning of its programs and other initiatives with a public reception on January 31, 2008.
