"1968: A Global Perspective"

The Humanities Institute is one among several co-sponsors of the interdisciplinary conference, "1968: A Global Perspective," which will be held on the UT campus between October 10-12, 2008. Organized by Program in Comparative Literature faculty and graduate students, and supported by the College of Liberal Arts, the Department of English, and several other units on campus, the conference will examine many of the political, social, and cultural events and impacts of the watershed year 1968 through a series of lectures, panels, films (which will be screened throughout September and early October) and discussions. Notable keynote speakers include Kathleen Cleaver, Michael Hardt, Kristin Ross, Diana Sorensen, and Daniel Ellsberg, who will preview the conference with a lecture on Tuesday evening, October 7. Conference events are free and open to the public.
